My fellow Legionnaires,
As your new Commander, I want to thank everyone for the encouragement and faith you have placed in me as we now go forward in the great cause of service in this Department.
As I prepare for our July Organization meeting, I have been making repeated phone calls to you. In doing so, I have received your continuous willingness to serve where needed. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement.
I have learned to never underestimate what volunteers can accomplish when they are united by purpose. That purpose is to serve our veterans and communities.
An outgoing Commander from another Department said it best: “Unity reminds us that we are strongest when we stand together. Not one group against another, not one area, district, or post against another. We must remember one team, one mission, one American Legion.”
Leadership should be earned through service, vision, character, and commitment. Service reminds us of why we exist, not for titles, not for position, not for recognition. We exist to serve veterans, military families, our youth, and our communities.
My quote, slogan, or motto that I want to share with you is “SERVE WHERE YOU STAND.” No matter where you are or what you are doing, serve where you stand.Â
I am eagerly excited and motivated to serve you, my fellow Legion members, our veterans, and communities in this Department.
Thank you for your constant example; it is my strength and reminder of our purpose in the service of others.
Ross Bergstresser
Commander
The American Legion
Department of Arizona
