Arizona Department of the American Legion Commander Warns of House Scam Emails
To the public and our valued Legion Family,
Manny Beltran, Commander of the Arizona Department of the American Legion, is issuing an urgent warning about fraudulent emails circulating that falsely appear to be from him. These scam emails often try to trick you into sending gift cards, money, or performing other favors.
“I want to assure everyone that I will never solicit donations or favors through email,” said Commander Beltran.” These requests are not how we conduct business at the American Legion. If you receive an email that appears to be from me asking for something, please do not respond and report it immediately.”
Commander Beltran advises the public to be vigilant and pay close attention to the sender’s email address. All legitimate emails from the Arizona Department of the American Legion will originate from the @azlegion.org domain.
How to spot a scam:
- Check the sender’s email address: Does it end in @azlegion.org? If not, it’s likely a scam.
- Be wary of requests for gift cards or money: The American Legion will never solicit donations in this manner.
- Look for grammatical errors and typos: Scam emails often contain these.
- Don’t click on any links or attachments: These could infect your computer with malware.
- Do not reply or forward the message to others: These emails could contain harmful links, or
Do NOT forward or respond to the email. Here’s why:
- Forwarding spreads the scam: You could inadvertently send it to people you know, putting them at risk.
- Responding confirms your email is active: Scammers sell lists of active email addresses to other criminals.
- Links and attachments can be dangerous: Even if you don’t reply, opening the email could expose your computer to malware.
