“A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue (an introduction or warning of what is to come) to a farce or a tragedy.”
— James Madison
The American Legion was founded on the principles of representative government, informed membership, and accountability. Those principles require more than electing leaders—they require ensuring that every member has access to the information necessary to understand the decisions being made on behalf of our Department.
It is with that commitment that I am pleased to announce the launch of the new Publications section on the American Legion Department of Arizona website. This new section provides members with a centralized location to access our governing documents, official meeting digests, and reports from Arizona’s representatives serving at the national level.
The American Legion Department of Arizona is pleased to announce the launch of a new Publications section on our Department website, providing members with a centralized location to access some of the Department’s most important governing documents and official publications.
At the 2026 Department Convention, delegates ratified and approved the newly revised Department Constitution & Bylaws, which were officially signed and adopted during the convention. This marked a significant milestone for our Department and ensures that our governing documents are current, readily available, and accessible to every member.
In addition to adopting the revised Constitution and Bylaws, the convention also established a Digest Committee charged with preparing official meeting digests. These digests summarize the actions taken during Department Conventions, providing members with a concise reference of the business conducted on their behalf.
This new initiative serves members in several important ways. Those who attended the convention now have an official resource to reference the actions that were taken, while members who were unable to attend can stay informed and better understand the decisions that shape the Department.
Where to Find These Resources
From the Department website, select Publications from the main navigation menu. There you will find direct links to the Constitution, Bylaws & Resolutions section, the Meeting Digests section, and the new National Insights section.

The new Publications menu provides direct access to these resources.
National Insights
In addition to Department publications, the new National Insights section provides another valuable resource for Arizona Legionnaires.
Throughout the year, Department commission and committee chairpersons, National Executive Committeemen, and other appointed representatives attend National American Legion meetings, conferences, forums, and committee sessions on behalf of the Department of Arizona. These events often include discussions on new programs, emerging initiatives, policy changes, legislative priorities, and best practices from across the country.
The purpose of the National Insights section is to bring that information back home. Rather than allowing valuable knowledge to remain with only those who attended, Arizona’s national representatives are encouraged to submit reports summarizing what they learned, the issues discussed, and information that may benefit Posts, Districts, Department leadership, and members throughout the state.
By sharing these reports, the Department hopes to provide members with greater visibility into national activities, encourage the exchange of ideas, and strengthen communication between the National Organization and the American Legion Department of Arizona.
A Major Accomplishment for the Department
The creation of this new Publications section represents much more than simply posting documents online. It reflects a continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and improving communication throughout the Department.
For the first time, members have a dedicated location where they can access:
- Official Department Constitution, Bylaws, and Resolutions.
- Meeting Digests summarizing actions taken during Department Conventions.
- National Insights reports submitted by Arizona’s national representatives following national meetings, conferences, and committee sessions.
- An expanding archive of official Department publications for future reference.
By preserving these documents and making them readily available, we are strengthening the continuity of our organization and creating a valuable historical record for future officers, committee members, Posts, and Legionnaires across Arizona.
This is a significant accomplishment for the American Legion Department of Arizona and an important step toward ensuring that every member has access to the information needed to better understand the work being done on behalf of veterans and their families.
We encourage every member to explore the new Publications section of the Department website and make these resources part of their regular reference library. As future Department Conventions are held, additional publications, meeting digests, and National Insights reports will be added, creating an enduring archive that documents the work and progress of the American Legion Department of Arizona.
