Subject: Arizona Observes 78th Anniversary of Attack at Pearl Harbor
The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services will host the State’s Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. The event will start with a performance by the Mesa Caledonian Pipe Band at 10:30 a.m. and the official program will begin at 10:55 am with a flyover by the Arizona Commemorative Air Force in a Boeing B-17G Sentimental Journey. The start time of 10:55 a.m. is the local time of the attack on U.S. naval and military facilities 78 years ago in Hawaii.
This event is free and open to the public, as the State continues to educate the public about the significance of World War II and Arizona’s relationship with the war.
Veterans Service Organizations and patriotic groups from across Arizona will lay memorial wreaths at the USS Arizona anchor in remembrance of the attack at Pearl Harbor. Capt. Andree Bergmann, commanding officer of the Arizona State University Naval ROTC Unit will serve as the keynote speaker.
This observance began in 1958 when the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association began hosting the ceremony. Present day, the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services sponsors the ceremony that’s planned by the Pearl Harbor Day Committee.
