We want to make our Posts and members aware of several recent issues affecting traditional mail, including PUFL checks being mailed by The American Legion National Headquarters.
Department Headquarters has been advised that some PUFL checks sent by National Headquarters to Posts may have been mailed using incorrect or outdated Post addresses. As a result, some of these checks may be delayed, returned, or delivered to an incorrect address.
If a PUFL check intended for a Post is received or returned to Department Headquarters, we will work to ensure that it gets to the correct Post. When practical, we will include the check with the next documents or correspondence being sent to that Post.
In addition to the PUFL check issue, we have become aware of other technology-related mailing issues at National Headquarters. Department Headquarters has also experienced local U.S. Postal Service issues that have resulted in delays or problems with outgoing and incoming traditional mail.
We want our Posts and members to know that these issues were not caused by Department Headquarters. However, we are doing everything reasonably possible to help correct problems that come to our attention and ensure correspondence reaches its intended destination.
If you are expecting a PUFL check, document, or other correspondence and have not received it, please allow a reasonable amount of time for postal delivery. If sufficient time has passed and the item still has not arrived, please contact Department Headquarters so we can determine whether we can assist.
We understand the frustration that delayed or misdirected mail can cause and appreciate everyone’s patience while these issues are being addressed.
