We have been made aware that a local Arizona American Legion post was recently used for a political event, where a group of veterans endorsed a candidate for U.S. Senate.
As the Commander of the American Legion Department of Arizona, let me be clear on this: The American Legion Department of Arizona is a non-partisan organization, and our posts should not be used for the benefit of one political party over another. The American Legion has never, nor will we ever, endorse a candidate for public office.
I apologize on behalf of our organization for this error, and we will work to ensure our members are educated on what is and is not permissible.
