Statement on Arizona Public School Funding
PHOENIX – The American Legion Department of Arizona leadership is calling upon the Arizona Legislature to come together to achieve the needed two-thirds vote of both the Arizona House and Arizona Senate to waive the AEL (aggregate expenditure limit) limit for the current and next school years.
“We further call upon the Legislature during the two-year waiver to work hard to replace the law with a modern approach that addresses the needs of Arizona students,” offers Arizona American Legion Department Commander Ben Headen. Headen is the elected leader of the more the almost 32,000 veterans who are members of The Legion.
“This issue is throwing into crisis not just school systems, but parents, students and school educators and staff who have been through so much in the past two years due to the pandemic. This should not be a “red” or “blue” debate, it should be a red, white and blue patriotic coming together for the common good of Arizona’s most valued natural resource – our kids,” Headen added.
